Peppermint is a perennial herbaceous peppermint that is known as peppermint because of its high aroma and pungency. Today, fresh peppermint is mostly used to produce peppermint oil or peppermint essential oil to flavor a variety of foods such as chewing gum or candy, and is also used in perfumes, cosmetics and health products. It is also used in tea, as a flavoring or in food decoration.

But dried peppermint is used to make peppermint juice and other blends. In addition to teas and a variety of teas, dried peppermint is also used in traditional medicine and the pharmaceutical and food industries.

The best time to plant peppermint is in spring or autumn. Spring planting is done in May and autumn planting in October. The crop can be harvested 2 to 3 times. The first harvest is in June and July, the second harvest is in September and the third harvest is in December.

This plant grows from a height of 30 to 90 cm and the average amount of essential oil in the aerial parts of the plant is 1 to 1.5%. Peppermint is sold wet or dry, depending on the needs of the consumer market, and the highest consumption of peppermint is to prepare essential oils and sweat.

Peppermint in Iran is mostly cultivated in the provinces of Qom, Isfahan, Markazi and Fars, and the best type of peppermint is Shiraz, which is the product of this city.
